Gentile Landscaping since 1978

Feel at home… outside.

Family-owned landscape design and contracting on Long Island: pools, stonework, planting and light, from one team.

Pool and terrace

One team, from the first drawing to the last planting.

A midsummer perennial border of coneflowers, white flowers, grasses and blue hydrangeas in front of a clipped hedge.

We have been designing and building landscapes on Long Island since 1978, and we are still a family-owned company. Because we offer a full range of design and contracting services, you work with one professional from start to finish: the master plan, the pool, the stonework, the planting and the lighting.

We don’t consider a project complete until it has exceeded what you hoped for. Our follow-up care, from pruning and feeding to deadheading and dividing perennials, keeps a new landscape settling in well after the build.

Rooms outdoors

A property works best when it is planned as one place. We think about the walk from the driveway, the terrace, the pool and the borders together, so each part feels like a room of the same house. Here is how that comes together, from the front walk to the garden after dark.

A natural flagstone patio meeting granite steps, edged with clipped boxwood and white hydrangeas beside a lawn.

The way in

Walkways, patios, piers and driveways set the pace of a property. We build them as part of our masonry work, along with retaining walls in stacked stone, boulders and random patterns.

A fieldstone outdoor fireplace with a wood fire at dusk, two teak chairs and white hydrangeas.
A built-in outdoor kitchen with a stone base, dark counter, grill and sink beneath a maple tree.

The terrace

An outdoor kitchen or fireplace turns a terrace into the room you use most from June to September. Because we also build the walls and paving around it, the three can be designed as one.

A long pool in late light reflecting a shingled house, framed by a tall hedge, lawn and hydrangeas.

The water

We install custom gunite and vinyl pools in all shapes and sizes. We also build formal and natural ponds, waterfalls, pondless waterfalls and fountains, so moving water can sit anywhere in the garden.

A small waterfall spilling over mossy boulders into a still pond with water lilies and iris.
A dry-laid stone retaining wall with lavender and catmint spilling over its cap and low plants at its base.

The borders

Perennials have been central to our planting for decades, chosen for long seasonal color that returns year after year. Large trees and screening plants give immediate privacy, and we handle transplanting, land clearing and seasonal color in urns, planters and beds.

A garden at blue hour with low path lights along a stone walk, an uplit oak and white hydrangeas before a shingled house.

After dark

Landscape lighting carries the garden into the evening along paths, steps, trees and the house itself. Below ground, our drywells and drainage systems keep lawns and terraces usable after a summer storm.
